For people like the reviewer below, the underlying theme is how a commonplace inanimate object can pass from one person to the next, interacting with each person differently (information, plaything, pest) and having different significance for each of them (important, fun, useless). This theme recalls works like the film "Twenty Bucks".

The style of the animation (graphic design, movement, pace, backing track) is in vein with retro cut-out animation of which there are many contemporary examples, including the credit titles to "the Incredibles", the "Erin Esurance" commercials, and (to a lesser extent) "The Powerpuff Girls".

It's a classy short. And a good one at that.
